Does Nielsen send you cash?
Why did I receive a cash gift? The money you receive is a small token. It’s to thank you for your participation in the Nielsen Consumer Survey.
Who is Nielsen?
Nielsen conducts over 210,000 surveys a year in the United States. They do surveys in over one hundred metro areas like yours. Nielsen is a professional research company with nothing to sell you. We will use your information and answers. We will do so according to the Nielsen Survey Privacy Statement.
What is market research?
Thousands of companies use market research every year. It helps them understand what consumers buy and why. Also, what consumers think about companies and products.
They use market research to decide what to offer. They also use it to plan how to reach and where to market to consumers. Consumers benefit because the items available to them become more customized and useful.
Surveys like Nielsen measure the opinions and behaviors of consumers. This starts with picking a cross-section of households. They represent thousands of consumers in the same area. We can’t survey every person in an area. So, researchers use a scientific approach to pick a few households. These households will stand for many others. You can never substitute another household for those selected. When a consumer refuses the survey, the research firm has lost that person. They also lost all the people the consumer represents.
Nielsen hopes to help consumers by showing how research does so. They hope this will make contacted households more willing to hear the survey. They also hope it will make them more willing to answer its questions.
Remember – your opinions count!
Why did you contact me?
Households were randomly selected to be the “voice” for others in your local area. By joining our research, you can tell local businesses about your choices. You can tell them about your preferences. This will help them serve you better. That’s why your role in the Nielsen Consumer Survey is crucial. Your answers will count for the many people not invited to the survey.
What are you selling?
Nielsen is NOT a telemarketing company. We are not trying to sell you anything. We are a market research company. We are doing research in your area. We want you to join the survey, not to make a sale. We will use your information and answers as the Nielsen Survey Privacy Policy says.
How do I know it’s research when I pick up the phone?
Many telemarketers start their calls by asking questions. Then, they switch to selling a service or a product. A real market research company will always start by telling you who they are. They will also say why they are calling. At the start of a call, ask if the caller is a telemarketer or a research company. Ask their reason for calling. Ask the person to explain what his or her company does, and what the outcome of the call will be.
Why are they calling me when I’m on the National Do Not Call Registry?
We are a market research company. We do not qualify as telemarketers, so we are exempt from the FTC rules about the Do Not Call Registry. We appreciate your privacy and your time and hope you choose to complete our Survey.
How did you get my contact information?
We use different methods for different studies. In some cases, we randomly select respondents from addresses in your local area. We select them from your entire local area. In other cases, we randomly select listed phone numbers from your area. We also dial other (unlisted) local numbers. We can’t survey everyone in your area. So, researchers use science to pick the households that will stand for many people. Statistical reasons prevent those who are picked from substituting. So, when a consumer refuses the survey, the firm has lost its representation. This is why your survey answers are so important. They will make a difference for all the people in your area.
